In the latest incident of violence in the northeastern state of Manipur, the house of a Union minister was torched. It was told by the Manipur government that the mob set fire to the Kongba residence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs RK Ranjan Singh late on Thursday night. It is a matter of honor that the Union Minister was not at home at the time of the incident. Earlier, some miscreants set ablaze a minister's house in Lamphel area of Imphal West on Wednesday. Nemcha Kipgen is a minister in the BJP and the state government. Kipjen is a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Kangpokpi constituency since 2017.

Minister of State for External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh told news agency ANI that I am currently in Kerala for official work. Thankfully no one was injured at my Imphal home last night. The miscreants had brought petrol bombs. The ground floor and first floor of my house have been damaged. He said that it is very sad to see what is happening in my home state. I will still continue to appeal for peace. People indulging in such violence are absolutely inhuman.

Earlier on Wednesday, at least nine people were killed and 10 others were injured in an attack by suspected miscreants in a village in Khamenlok area. During this, three persons were also being reported missing. The area shares borders with the Meitei-dominated Imphal East district and the tribal-dominated Kangpokpi district. Meanwhile, the ban on Internet services in Manipur has been extended. Now internet suspension including broadband has been extended till June 20 in the state.

At least 100 people have died and 310 others have been injured in the violence that broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur about a month ago. Army and paramilitary personnel have been deployed to restore peace in the state. The first clashes took place on May 3 after a 'tribal solidarity march' was organized in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in Manipur.
