On the other hand, the government has decided to constitute a task force to advise on monkeypox in India. According to official sources, this decision was taken in a high-level meeting held on July 26 regarding monkeypox. Several senior officials including the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister attended the meeting. The meeting was organized to review public health preparedness in view of the spread of monkeypox infection.
Four confirmed cases of monkeypox in India
So far four cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in India. Of these, three have been confirmed in Kerala while one case has been confirmed in Delhi. The National AIDS Control Organization and the Directorate General of Health Services have been asked to work out a sensitive strategy for the detection and management of monkeypox infection cases within the stipulated time. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been advised to operate network laboratories and make arrangements for necessary diagnosis of monkeypox disease.
