There will be a complete ban on the manufacture, sale and use of materials made of single-use plastic and thermocol from July 1 in the state including the country. Thereafter its manufacture, import, storage, distribution, sale or use shall be deemed illegal and violators of the directive shall be punished with fine up to one lakh rupees or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years, or with both. At present, the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Bihar State Pollution Control Board have been working for the last six months to spread awareness among the people.
Banners made of plastic less than 100 microns thick will be banned
Publicity is being done through talks with single-use plastic manufacturers and sellers, newspapers and other mediums including Radio FM. Along with this, jute or cloth bags etc. are being brought in the market as an alternative. According to the notification, plastic ear buds, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, thermocol decorative materials will be banned. Apart from this, plastic plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, straws, plastic films wrapping sweet boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packs, banners made of plastic less than 100 microns thick will be banned.

After the notification issued by the Central Government, one year's time was given to the producers and shopkeepers who used this type of plastic to make goods. These things had to be disposed of. This time period will end on July 1. From this day there will be a ban on the use of such plastic. In this way, in view of the pollution not spreading in the state due to plastic, there will be a complete ban.

To stop the manufacture and use of single-use plastic, the responsibility of following the rules and monitoring it has also been fixed. For this, the Chairman of Bihar State Pollution Control Council, Principal Secretary of Urban Development and Housing Department, Principal Secretary of Panchayati Raj Department have been given responsibility. They will be able to register cases against those who disobey the instructions.
