There is a lot of controversy going on in the country these days on the Common Civil Code. In this episode, Nobel laureate Amartya Sen says that implementing the Common Civil Code in India is a very difficult task. A lot of effort is needed for this. UCC matches with the theory of Hindu Rashtra.

Nobel laureate Amartya Sen is also a well-known economist. Sen has also been awarded the Bharat Ratna. He says that there are more variations in India. There are many religions in India. There are many customs in India. We should remove it and we need to unite by removing those differences. He told the journalist that I have read about it in the newspaper, there should be no delay in implementing the Common Civil Code. On the question of similarity between Hindu Rashtra and UCC, he said that yes, Hindu Rashtra has relation with UCC. But Hindu Rashtra alone is not the only way for progress.

Uniform Civil Code means having a uniform law for every citizen living in India, irrespective of religion or caste. In the Uniform Civil Code, the same law will apply to all religions in marriage, divorce and division of property. It means a fair law, which has nothing to do with any religion.

UCC was on the agenda of the BJP for a long time. On June 14, the Law Commission resumed its exercise on the UCC by seeking views of the public and recognized religious organizations on that proposal within 30 days. This bill can be introduced in the coming parliamentary session. When the issue picked up steam, on June 27, PM Modi while talking about the UCC in Bhopal said that the country cannot run on two laws and the Uniform Civil Code is part of the Constitution. In the BJP's 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto, the party had promised to implement the UCC if voted to power.
