Porsche confirms that the 911 will never be an electric car
The CEO of Porsche assured that the 911 will not have a 100% electric version and will continue to be linked to combustion and hybrid engines
While much of the industry accelerates its electrification plans, Porsche has just cleared up one of the great unknowns surrounding its most emblematic model. The German brand made it clear that the 911 will not follow the same path as other sports cars and SUVs in its range.

The confirmation came from Michael Leiters, the company's CEO, who ruled out the possibility of seeing a fully electric Porsche 911 in the future.

This is a decision that marks an important difference compared to the strategy followed by many European manufacturers.
A model with a special treatment
Within Porsche, the 911 occupies a different place from the rest of the vehicles in the range. More than just a sports car, it represents the historical identity of the firm and a fundamental part of its image worldwide.
For this reason, the company considers that its evolution must remain linked to combustion engines and hybrid technologies capable of improving performance without altering the personality that has made it a reference for decades.
Just because the 911 is not going to be completely electric does not mean that it will remain unaffected by new technologies. In fact, Porsche has already begun to incorporate electrified solutions in the most recent versions of the model.
These include advanced hybrid systems and racing-inspired components, such as electric turbochargers. The objective is to increase efficiency and performance while maintaining the driving experience that fans of this sports car expect.
A more flexible strategy
Porsche's position also responds to the current market reality. The adoption of electric vehicles in the premium segment has not advanced at the pace that many brands projected a few years ago.
Faced with this scenario, the manufacturer has opted for a more open strategy, in which different technologies coexist according to the needs of each product. Models such as the Taycan, the electric Macan or the future electric Cayenne will continue to play a key role in that transition.
