German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, gives Trump a German national team t-shirt with his last name and the number 47 on...
During the G7 summit, the American president received the German sports shirt with a smile and showed it to the attendees
Friedrich Merz presented the Mannschaft shirt to Donald Trump at the beginning of a meeting focused on Ukraine within the G7 summit in Évian (France), which today began its second day with that meeting.
The leaders of the G7, together with the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, and the president of the European Council, António Costa, were already seated at the negotiation table, chaired by the host, the Frenchman Emmanuel Macron.
Macron had both Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, on both sides. The latter, a special guest for the occasion, had been received in person by the French president upon his arrival at the Royal Hotel, the epicenter of the event.
A gift after several disagreements
Merz stood up to give him the shirt, which Trump received with a smile and showed to the rest of the attendees, then folded it and left it on the table. The republican leader, whose paternal grandfather was of German origin, turned 80 last Sunday.
The delivery of the shirt takes place after several disagreements between Merz and Trump, the last of them over the war between the United States and Israel against Iran; as well as in the middle of the World Cup, which is held jointly in the United States, Mexico and Canada and whose final is scheduled for July 19.
