George Clooney, the celebrated Hollywood actor whose words precipitated Joe Biden's withdrawal from his campaign for reelection, appears to have adopted the same strategy with Kamala Harris, the nation's former vice president.

The year One of the factors that forced the 82-year-old Democrat to abandon his bid to extend his term for another four years in the White House was the publication of an opinion piece written by Clooney in which he questioned Joe Biden's ability to continue shouldering the responsibility of leading the country and therefore asked him to step aside to give someone else the opportunity to assume the Democratic presidential nomination. “It's devastating to say, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at a fundraiser was not the Joe Biden of 2010. He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed in the debate,” described part of the text published by The New York Times in July. Clooney also asked Democrats determined to promote Biden as a strong politician to get their feet back on the ground and instead focus on choosing someone who would actually have a chance of defeating Trump on the ballot.

Following the impact of the Kentucky actor's words, such immense pressure rose from the Democratic Party leadership that days later, Biden ended his campaign by proposing Kamala Harris as his replacement.

However, throughout the campaign, he did not openly support Kamala Harris, but rather opposed the Republicans regaining the White House.

Almost a year after the Californian's defeat in the election, George Clooney revealed during an interview with CBS News that he initially denied regretting writing the scathing article that dashed Biden's hopes.

“We had an opportunity. I wanted there to be, as I wrote in the article, a primary,” he noted.

He then described Kamala Harris's candidacy as a Democratic strategic error, as she was not the best candidate to replace Biden.

“I think the mistake of having Kamala as the nominee was that she had to fight against her own record. And it's very difficult to do that if the goal of the candidacy is to say, 'I'm not that person.' She was given a very difficult task. Honestly, I think it was a mistake, but things are the way they are,” he emphasized.

In fact, the actor believes that Westley Watende Omari Moore, governor of Maryland, would be the best-prepared candidate the Democratic Party could put forward as a presidential nominee in 2028.

“He's smart. He ran a hedge fund. He ran the Robin Hood Foundation. He's a true leader. I think he could be someone we could all get behind. We have to find someone soon,” he said in an interview with CNN in April.
