Iran says it is in “total war” with the US, Israel, and Europe
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accused the West of encircling the Persian country on all fronts
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country is immersed in a “total war” with the United States, Israel, and Europe, which he accused of encircling Tehran on all fronts to prevent it from remaining standing.
“We are in a total war with the United States, Israel, and “Europe. They don’t want our country to stand,” the Iranian president declared in an interview on the website of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Pezeshkian said this war is worse and far more complex than the war with Iraq in the 1980s, which he indicated was merely a series of military attacks. “Now they are surrounding us on all fronts, putting us under pressure and in a bind, creating economic, cultural, political, and security problems,” the Iranian president asserted. He was referring to the sanctions imposed by both the United States and the UN against Tehran for its nuclear program, which have severely impacted the Iranian economy, registering an annual inflation rate of 42% while its currency is in constant devaluation. Since the reinstatement of international sanctions at the end of last September, driven by Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, the rial has fallen by 24.43%.
The Twelve-Day War
Iran also confronted Israel in a 12-day war in June, in which its nuclear, military, and civilian facilities were bombed, causing more than 1,000 deaths, including dozens of high-ranking military officials and nuclear scientists.
Iran responded to these offensives with daily missile and drone attacks against Israeli territory, resulting in the deaths of about 30 people.
The US also intervened in the conflict with attacks against Iran's three main nuclear facilities.
With the outbreak of war, nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington stalled, and the Islamic Republic refuses to resume them due to what it considers excessive US demands, which include a halt to uranium enrichment. The limitation of the range of Iranian missiles and the end of Iran's support for regional militias such as Hezbollah in Lebanon or Hamas in Palestine.
