Los Angeles voters will decide on renovating 200,000 streetlights
Los Angeles proposes raising rates by 120% to fund streetlight renovation; more than 600,000 ballots sent to voters
Los Angeles voters will decide on renovating more than 200,000 streetlights citywide, as outlined in an evaluation proposal in Proposition 218.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass urged voters to approve the proposal, which would increase rates for property owners by approximately 120% to help fund a $125 million program to replace more than 200,000 streetlights.
According to city officials, the current system generates about $45 million and has not been updated since the 1990s, when California voters approved Proposition 218 to require approval for new local contributions or increases to existing ones.
