Trump says Hamas will be “eradicated” if it doesn't comply with the agreement in Gaza
Two U.S. special envoys met with Benjamin Netanyahu after weekend violence threatened to destroy the fragile truce.
“We agreed with Hamas that they are going to be very good, that they are going to behave,” Trump told reporters at the White House while receiving Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
“And if they don’t, we are going to go in and we are going to eradicate them. If necessary, they will be eradicated,” he said.
Trump sends envoys and says Hamas was weakened after war with Iran
Trump sent two special envoys to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after the weekend violence threatened to destroy the fragile truce that the Republican leader negotiated almost two weeks ago.
He also insisted on Monday that Hamas was greatly weakened after Iran, its main supporter, suffered Hamas hands over another body to Israel
Separately, Israel said Monday that its troops had received the body of a hostage in the Gaza Strip through the Red Cross as part of a Trump-brokered deal.
A statement from Netanyahu's office said the body would be flown to Israel for identification.
Before the return of the remains, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group, had returned 12 bodies of hostages to Israel, out of the 28 it had pledged to return under the ceasefire agreement.
