According to Hindu mythology, Prahlad, the son of Hiranyakashipu, was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. But his father Hiranyakashyap did not like all this. He wanted his son to worship him and not Lord Vishnu. Troubled by these things, the king decided to kill his son Prahlad. For this, he started torturing the son in various ways. When nothing happened to Prahlad even after those tortures, he planned to burn Prahlad with the help of his sister Holika.

The king's sister Holika had a boon that she would not burn in the fire. That's why she took Prahlad in her lap and sat in the fire. But even at that time Prahlad continued to worship Lord Vishnu and he was saved and Holika got burnt.
