Diego Cocca is committed to getting Atlas out of the bottom
Atlas is in the last places of the Apertura 2025. But Diego Cocca looks to give his club a winning mentality before the duel with America
Club Atlas is looking to get out of the last places of the Apertura 2025 classification table. Diego Cocca has already directed his first match and now he will have a tough rival in his second test: the Aguilas del America. The Argentine coach sees positive things in his charges.
The "Zorros" are in 15th place in the standings after 5 rounds. Club Atlas has only 1 win so far in the championship. Despite the poor results, Diego Cocca believes he has arrived at a club that is not mentally collapsed.
"I've spoken with several and the feelings have been really good, which is precisely what they all share, they can't find the way around it. In my first process back the word was frustration, now I don't see them frustrated, there is no frustration, there is a desire to keep looking and not finding the way around it. Luckily it's not frustrated yet, so it's up to us to find the way around it so they don't continue to fall," said the South American coach.
In his first match on the bench, Diego Cocca led Atlas in their visit to Corregidora Stadium. By the 90-4 minute mark, the "Zorros" had a 1-3 lead. But two goals in the final minutes tied the score. Despite this, the red-and-blacks left a good impression.
America in sight
Diego Cocca's next test will be against the Aguilas del America. Club Atlas will face one of the two teams still undefeated in the tournament. The Azulcremas are only one point away from the top.
“For me, that match wasn't a change because we lost. You get the feeling when you really say on the field, 'Yes, we can compete with anyone.' And that's Atlas' goal. To feel like we can compete with anyone. It's clear that if you can compete with America, you can compete with anyone. So it's an opportunity and a huge challenge,” he added.
The Jalisco Stadium will be the venue for the duel between Club Atlas and the Aguilas del America. The “Zorros” will need to improve their defensive sector. The Red and Blacks are the team that has conceded the most goals in Liga MX, along with Queretaro.
