England registered a consolation win by beating
India by 17 runs in the third and final T20 International on Sunday after David Malan's 39-ball 77 came under tight bowling.
India won the first two matches and won the three-match series 2-1. Electing to bat after winning the toss, England posted a mammoth score of 215 for seven with Malan (six fours, five sixes) and Livingstone (42 not out in 29 balls) putting up an 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
England set a target of 216 runs
Chasing the target, the
Indian team lost the first three wickets in the powerplay. But the partnership between Suryakumar Yadav (117) and
Shreyas Iyer (28 runs) for the fourth wicket of 119 runs in 62 balls saved the team from these setbacks. Despite this, Suryakumar's 55-ball innings with 14 fours and six sixes could not help
India win. Reece Topley was the most successful bowler for England, taking three wickets for 22 runs in four overs. Apart from him, David Willey took two and Chris Jordan took two wickets in the last over.
poor start for india
India did not start well, the team lost the wickets of wicket-keeper batsman
Rishabh Pant (01), Virat Kohli (11) and captain
Rohit Sharma (11) in the powerplay. The team's score in six overs was 34 runs for three wickets. In the second over, Topley got Pant caught by the wicketkeeper. Then Kohli came to the crease. Kohli hit a lucrative six off the next ball after hitting Willie for a superb boundary at mid-wicket in the third over. But in an attempt to lift the next ball over the cover, he was dismissed by giving a simple catch.
Suryakumar hits a four on the very first ball
Suryakumar then hit the first four of his innings on Gleason. In the fifth over,
Rohit Sharma hit two fours on Topley, but could not time the shot on the last slow ball and
India lost the third wicket. Then Suryakumar and Iyer played responsibly and helped the team recover from the initial setbacks. Together these two made the team's score 82 runs for three wickets in 10 overs. With the century partnership between the two, the team made 150 runs for three wickets in 15 overs.
India gave tough competition
The team needed 66 runs in 30 balls to clean sweep the series. But in the 16th and his last over, Topley ended the partnership by ending the innings of Iyer (26 balls, two sixes). Dinesh Karthik now came to support Suryakumar. Suryakumar completed a century in the 17th over by hitting Willie for a four in 48 balls with 12 fours and five sixes. This made him the sixth
Indian to score a century in T20 International
cricket. Karthik was appealed leg before a ball later and Buttler took a review in which he was out.
