IPL 2024: This veteran, who made Australia T20 champion, became the coach of Lucknow, will take over the responsibility
Langer will take over from former head coach Andy Flower. Flower had a two-year contract with the Lucknow team.
Former Australian cricketer and coach Justin Langer has been appointed as the head coach of Lucknow Supergiants for the upcoming season of IPL. Langer had been in talks with the Supergiants for some time now. Now on Friday, this franchise confirmed the appointment of Langer. Langer will take over from former head coach Andy Flower. Flower had a two-year contract with the Lucknow team. The franchisee did not renew it. Now Langer will try to get the team the title for the first time with captain KL Rahul.
Langer has made Australia the world champion
Langer has previously been the head coach of the Australian team. He was appointed Australia's coach in May 2018. Under his supervision, the Kangaroos won the Ashes series 4–0. Not only this, the Australian team became T20 champions for the first time in 2021 under the supervision of Langer. Under the guidance of Langer, the Perth Scorchers team has won the Big Bash League title three times.
On being appointed as the head coach, Langer said, “The Lucknow Supergiants team is on a great journey in the IPL. We all have an important role in that journey and I am excited to be a part of this team moving forward.
Cricket Australia took this decision due to a dispute with the team. Langer said that some coward players are opposing him inside the team. After this statement came to the fore, the entire Australian team including Captain Cummins opposed him. After this Langer was removed.
Andy Flower was the coach of Lucknow for two seasons
The franchise of Lucknow was formed in 2022. Since then Andy Flower was the head coach of this team. Under his supervision, the team managed to qualify for the playoffs for two consecutive years. However, in the Eliminator in IPL 2022, Lucknow Super Giants were defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore by 14 runs. At the same time, in the Eliminator in IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians defeated Lucknow by 81 runs.
