NFL: Former player Bryan Braman died of cancer
The 38-year-old former linebacker had a rare and aggressive type of cancer. Bryan Braman asked for donations for his treatment. Braman was a champion with the Eagles
Bryan Braman, 38-year-old former linebacker, champion in Super Bowl LII with the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL, died this Thursday after suffering from a rare form of cancer, reported Sean Stellato, his agent.
Earlier this July, the former player's family had started a fundraising campaign to treat his illness.
Braman was an aggressive defensive back who arrived in the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2011 to play with the Houston Texans.
In the 2012 campaign, he finished as the franchise leader with 16 special teams tackles and set a Texans record with two blocked punts in a season.
In 2014, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, a franchise with which he earned his championship ring in the 2017 season, when They beat the New England Patriots 41-33, led by Tom Brady.
That was the last appearance for the defensive end who played 94 games in the seven years he was in the NFL.
According to 'GoFundMe', the site where donations were collected, the type of cancer Braman was diagnosed with was rare and aggressive.
He received a cell reprogramming treatment that, due to its cost, had required financial support from fans and NFL players.
His former teammates Justin James Watt, Brent Celek, Najee Goode, Rasul Douglas, Emmanuel Acho and Dexter McDougle were some of the players who made donations.
Texans legend JJ Watt, who played on the field with Bryan Braman, shared his condolences on social media Thursday.
“Rest in peace, brother. Gone too soon,” Watt wrote in a message accompanied by a photo of Bryan in a Texans uniform.
