Chiefs Rashee Rice sentenced to prison and probation for accident in Dallas
Rashee Rice must serve 30 years in prison and five years of probation for the multiple accident
Kansas City Chiefs star receiver Rashee Rice was sentenced to 30 days in prison and five years of probation for his involvement in a multiple-vehicle crash in Dallas in May 2024.
The sentence was handed down Thursday by a Dallas County judge, ESPN reported.
Rice, 25, also received a deferred adjudication order, meaning the case will be dismissed if he successfully completes his probation.
According to sources close to the case, the recipient could serve the 30 days of confinement at any time during the next five years.
The facts of the accident
The accident that led to the sentencing occurred on May 30, 2024, when Rice was driving a Lamborghini SUV at 119 mph (191 km/h) on a Dallas freeway. The incident involved multiple vehicles and resulted in multiple injuries, according to the police report.

Potential repercussions for the NFL
With the sentence now in place, the NFL can now expedite its disciplinary process. Rice is likely to receive a multi-game suspension during the 2025 season, although the league has yet to issue an official statement. This is not the first time the NFL has imposed sanctions for off-field conduct, especially when there are legal implications, so a disciplinary decision is expected before the start of the regular season. Rice was a key piece for the Chiefs in 2023 until a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee suffered in Week 4 sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Despite his absence, Kansas City advanced to the AFC Championship Game.
According to team sources, Rice is healthy and expected to be fit for the start of training camp next week, which represents a key opportunity to regain his place on the offensive team led by Patrick Mahomes.
