Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero are negotiating a rematch, according to reports
Manouk Akopyan commented that Ryan Garcia is very interested in this second fight and Rolly Romero is willing to give him the chance again
Ryan Garcia and Rolando 'Rolly' Romero, World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion, are reportedly in negotiations to hold a rematch in December, journalist Manouk Akopyan reported.
In an article published in The Ring magazine, Akopyan commented that Garcia is very interested in this second fight and Rolly Romero is willing to give him the chance again.
"The camps of Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero have already started negotiations and are in advanced talks for a rematch to take place in December," he wrote.
In the fight with Romero, Ryan Garcia was surprised and sent to the canvas by a left hook in the second round. From that moment on, 'Rolly' completely dominated him and ultimately took the victory by unanimous decision (115-112, 115-112, 118-109).
In addition, the American won the World Boxing Association (WBA) 147-pound belt. This is the third time García has lost the opportunity to become champion.
King Ry didn't look as good in his return to the ring after a one-year suspension, and neither fighter landed a single blow in the fight (490 in total). According to Compubox, this is the third-lowest number recorded in its 40-year history.
After the fight, Rolly Romero stated that he is willing to give Ryan Garcia a rematch if that's what he wants, and the Californian accepted. The champion is also being considered for a fight with Manny Pacquiao, but nothing is certain yet.
Ryan Garcia, 25, returned to action after a year of inactivity due to a doping suspension and lost for the second time in his career. The Mexican-American has a record of 24 wins (20 by knockout), two losses and one no contest in his professional career.
For his part, Rolando 'Rolly' Romero, 27, was crowned WBA champion at 147 pounds after easily dominating King Ry. The American fighter now has a record of 17 wins (12 by quick knockout) and two losses.
