Tata Martino assured that the hostility in Mexico was media-related and not of the fans
Gerardo Martino acknowledged that the fans of the Mexican national team never treated him with hostility and that all the attacks were media-related
Gerardo Martino, former coach of the Mexican national team, assured that the attacks and accusations made against him for the elimination in the first phase of the last World Cup in Qatar 2022, were at a media level and not among the fans with whom he had no conflict.
The above was pointed out by the Argentine strategist in an exclusive interview on the program "Tiempo Extra" of the newspaper La Opinion, where he blamed the press for generating a toxic environment against him after being able to achieve the objective of taking Mexico to the famous fifth game of a World Cup.
"Obviously, nobody likes to hear certain issues, even issues that in today's football have no value whatsoever, otherwise I did not suffer it in the way that people and especially I say here in Argentina or in Rosario imagined because it was not what I observed on the street."
Martino denied that he felt any type of aggression or of feeling like Mexico's public enemy number one, as some media outlets handled it and that he was able to corroborate this at various times while walking in Mexico City, except for that uncomfortable incident upon his arrival from Qatar at the Benito Juarez International Airport Juarez.
“Because in Mexico we could have continued with our normal life of walking around the city without any kind of problem, I mean, everything was very media-driven, obviously it was very media-driven. This didn't affect people, although it used to happen at some home game, but the truth is that in our daily lives we didn't suffer it, we didn't experience it.
And he added that “In the same way, we didn't realize that what they mentioned so much happened in everyday life, so in some way we were able to carry it forward beyond the fact that we would have liked to be remembered in a totally different way,but we also know that football is a matter of results and unfortunately we couldn't get the results in the final stages and well then obviously this has a negative impact on what we thought we would achieve."
A cold analysis of the Gold Cup would have to be done
On the other hand, Gerardo Martino did not want to analyze in depth the work of Mauricio Pochettino in the last Gold Cup where in the end the United States team fell to Mexico and where it could be assumed that the North American team should have offered greater resistance.
The United States did not go with a full squad and we would have to look at that a little in order to do a better analysis. Knowing why the important players did not want to play in the Gold Cup and that sometimes happens because there is a problem because the players do not want to come and prefer to have a vacation. So that would not be a fair analysis for Mauricio Pochettino, he concluded.
