The Vasco Aguirre shows the two sides of the coin for the duel against Costa Rica
Javier Aguirre said that the result against Costa Rica this Sunday does not matter, but he described seeing Piojo Herrera as emotional.
Javier Aguirre, coach of the Mexico national team, showed the two sides of the coin for the duel against Costa Rica, because, on the one hand, he downplayed the result against the Ticos and on the other On the other hand, he highlighted the emotional nature of facing another Mexican coach like Miguel “Piojo” Herrera.
While for the majority of Mexican fans facing Costa Rica, coached by a Mexican, seems paramount, Aguirre’s vision was very different when he assured in the press conference prior to Sunday’s match that the result of the match will not change anything.
“Change does not change anything, perhaps there will be less pressure, neither team is playing for a place in the next round, that gives us a certain peace of mind to face the match without having to wait for a different result.”
Aguirre emphasized that perhaps on an emotional level there are many things to highlight, but he also asked that things be given their fair value: “On an emotional level there is a healthy rivalry, we are going to play at our highest level, but without that vital need to win to advance, there is a kind of depressurization.”
Emotional confrontation with Vasco
On the other hand, Javier Aguirre dedicated some comments to his Mexican colleague Miguel “Piojo” Herrera: “Miguel has been in charge of the Mexican National Team, he gave us enormous joy in Brazil (2014) and being Mexican he knows our idea, but in the end the players are the ones who carry out the game plan and our participation (the coaches) is limited to substitutions and halftime.”
Even with all that, he assured that seeing the two from each team face each other will be something emotional and special, “because in the end we are two Mexican coaches trying to get the best in an international competition and that is worth highlighting,” he concluded.
“It will be difficult to face Herrera”: Piojo Alvarado
Finally, Roberto “Piojo” Alvarado said it will be difficult to face Costa Rica, coached by Miguel Herrera, a coach he has faced on other occasions: “I had the chance to face him and he is a great coach. But in the end, we are the ones who play on the field and we will try to execute the game plan to have a good match.”
“We will try to have a great match to win and advance to the top of the group. That’s what we are focused on. It doesn’t matter that he knows us because it will only be eleven against eleven,” concluded the Tricolor forward.
