In a recent interview granted to the ELLE magazine, the 24-year-old artist delved into her relationship with body image and revealed why she has decided that she will never undergo cosmetic surgery.
The interpreter of “What Was I Made For?” explained that her negative doesn't born from a judgment towards others, but from a pledge of loyalty towards her own healing process.
According to detailed, for years she maintained an “extremely toxic” relationship with her body, which led her to wear loose clothing as a defense mechanism against public scrutiny.
A commitment to reality
For Eilish, plastic surgery represents, in many cases, a response to unrealistic beauty standards promoted by social networks. "I know the ins and outs of this world and I know that what seems real is often false," the singer noted.
The artist argued that submitting a surgical procedure to fit into those molds would be betraying the freedom that took so much effort to achieve after years of fighting eating disorders and self-esteem problems.
“Trying to always look perfect is a loss of freedom,” she affirmed forcefully. Eilish highlighted that she now sees her body as a a survival tool —to “eat, walk and exist”— and not as an object that must be carved for others' visual pleasure.
The Oscar winner stressed that she feels proud of her “younger self”, that teenager who resisted criticism for her physique. By choosing naturalness, seeks to send a message of honesty to its millions of followers, denouncing that many public figures are not sincere about the touch-ups to which they submit.
