Former Zimbabwe cricket team captain and veteran player Heath Streak passed away on Wednesday at the age of 49. He was diagnosed with cancer some time back. He was battling fourth-stage cancer. Heath Streak's condition had become critical since then. In May this year, Zimbabwe's health minister had said that Heath was receiving treatment in South Africa and was not in a stable condition.

Heath made his international debut in November 1993. His first match was an ODI against South Africa at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. After this, Heath made his Test debut against Pakistan in December 1993. He played his last ODI in August 2005 against New Zealand and last Test in September 2005 against India. Heath dismissed Sachin Tendulkar thrice and Sourav Ganguly four times in his career. In his last international match, Heath bowled brilliantly in the first innings of the Harare Test against India.

He had sent half of the Indian team to the pavilion. Heath took six wickets for 73 runs in 32 overs in the first innings of that match. However, despite his brilliant performance, Team India won that match by 10 wickets. Heath Streak represented Zimbabwe in 65 Tests and 189 ODIs. He has 1990 runs in Tests and 2943 runs in ODIs. In Tests, Heath scored one century and 11 half-centuries, while in ODIs he scored 13 half-centuries. Apart from this, Heath took 216 wickets in Tests and 239 wickets in ODIs. His best bowling figures are six for 73 in Tests and five for 32 in ODIs. Apart from this, he has also been the coach of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL.
