After his goal, Rafael Cabral extended the lead in the 65th minute and sealed the victory in the 91st minute, capping off a solid Portuguese performance. Cristiano Jr. had made his debut with the under-16 team just the previous Thursday, in the match against Turkey that ended 2-0 in favor of the Portuguese side. With his first official goal, the son of the Portuguese captain begins to write his own story in the national jersey.
Portugal will face England on November 4, looking to finish their participation in the youth tournament with a perfect record.
A talent with a Portuguese heart
Although his future seems clearly linked to Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. could, in theory, represent up to five different national teams: Portugal, the United States, Spain, England, or Cape Verde.
The youngster was born in San Diego, California, which makes him eligible to play for the United States. However, he has never resided in North America, and his football training has taken place entirely in Europe and the Middle East. Before joining the Al Nassr academy in Saudi Arabia—the team where his father currently plays—the teenager played in the youth academies of Manchester United and Juventus, two clubs that marked key stages in Cristiano Ronaldo's professional career. In May of this year, Junior had already shone in the Portuguese under-15 jersey, scoring a brace in the final of the Vlatko Markovic Tournament in Croatia.Portugal won 3-2 against the host nation.
