German Berterame, forward for the Mexican national team, was pleased after scoring his first goal with the Tricolor in the duel vs. Ecuador, so he ruled out any pressure due to his naturalized status when seeking a spot on the final 26-man roster for the 2026 World Cup.

Interviewed at the end of the match in which they tied with Ecuador, where the Monterrey forward answered La Opinion's question in the mixed zone at the Akron Stadium, regarding whether the experiences of previous naturalized players in the Mexican national team generate any type of pressure for him.

Berterame responded that: "The pressure is on everyone, I see it as a pleasure to be here and to be fighting for a spot on the Mexican national team. I enjoyed the moment, I feel privileged to play for the national team and to be able to help." I think this goes beyond being naturalized or not.”

Regarding the position where he was used against Ecuador, Berterame said: “I feel comfortable in the position, I try to feel comfortable, all the positions they put me, today was an unforgettable night because of the first goal I scored.”
