Official home office decreed for the opening of the World Cup
Public servants and students of various levels must stay at home due to the start of the World Cup in CDMX
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, published an official decree to implement remote work mechanisms called “home office” as a way to reduce the road chaos that is generated in Mexico City and that will cover the work of public servants this Thursday, June 11, on the occasion of the opening of the 2026 World Cup.
The official order established that: "On the occasion of the celebration of the events to take place on June 11, 2026, linked to the inauguration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the aim of contributing to urban mobility and road safety."
"The continuity of administrative activities and efficiency in the provision of public service; the agencies and entities of the Federal Public Administration are instructed so that, within the scope of their respective powers. And in accordance with the needs of the service, they implement teleworking schemes, remote work or flexible modalities of work organization with respect to the public servants under their charge based in Mexico City," said the official formulation of the government of Mexico. ,
The federal government also indicated that, in order to contribute to urban mobility and road safety, the private and social sector in CDMX was urged to implement teleworking, remote work or flexible work organization modalities on June 11 in all non-essential administrative activities.
Due to the start of the World Cup, classes will also be suspended for the millions of students in preschool, primary, secondary and upper secondary education, as well as for the training of basic education teachers of the National Educational System, as well as those of the upper secondary and higher education types dependent on the Ministry of Public Education based in Mexico City, public and private.
“This decree comes into force on the day of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation,” reads the publication of this Tuesday, June 9, which generates surprise because in the previous two World Cup editions there was no need to suspend classes, much less generate so much chaos due to the World Cup tournament.
