Jake Paul admits he wouldn't get in the ring with Benavidez
Jake Paul commented that Benavidez is a different kind of boxer with power and the ability to take punishment, so he believes his punches wouldn't hurt him
Jake Paul admitted that David Benavidez, the World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion, is one of the few fighters he wouldn't dare to get in the ring with and explained his reasons.
In statements to ESPN Ringside, Paul commented that Benavidez is a different kind of boxer who has punching power and the ability to take punishment, so he believes his punches wouldn't hurt him. “There's a very short list of people I wouldn't get in the ring with, and Benavidez is on that list. That guy is different. His power, his speed, his cardio, his nonstop punching, and his relentless pressure… your punches don't mean shit to him,” he said. It's understandable that Jake Paul doesn't want a fight with the Mexican Monster, a fighter who remains undefeated and is in his prime. Thanks to his boxing style, Benavidez has earned the respect of his rivals, and champions like Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol have chosen to avoid a fight with him. The great reputation David Benavidez has earned has frustrated him because he hasn't been able to get big fights. Therefore, after defending his WBC 175-pound title against Anthony Yarde last November in Saudi Arabia, the Mexican-American fighter declared he wouldn't wait for anyone and challenged Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez. Now, the Mexican Monster will step into the ring with his fellow Mexican in May 2026 to seek the 200-pound title. Jake Paul, 27, suffered his second career defeat, the first by knockout. The American YouTuber has a record of 12 wins (six by knockout) and two losses. Meanwhile, David Benavidez, 29, captured the WBA regular 175-pound title after defeating David Morrell by unanimous decision. The Mexican Monster boasts a record of 30 wins, 24 of them by knockout, and no losses in his professional career.
