Memo Ochoa is betrayed by tears due to his daughter's emotional letter
FIFA released the emotional letter that his daughter dedicated to Memo Ochoa on the threshold of the decision to retire after 20 years of experience
With 740 games as a professional, of which 140 have been with the Mexican national team in almost two decades of career, there are few things that could move World Cup goalkeeper Memo Ochoa, like a letter full of feeling from his daughter that perfectly depicts the moment that her father is experiencing.
With six World Cups behind him and hoping to play at least one game in its fourth edition, the former América goalkeeper received an emotional letter from his daughter Lucciana that made him vibrate to the last corner of his being through the lines dedicated to his heir, to the point of causing the goalkeeper to be moved to tears by the affection, love and pride poured into that letter.
The goalkeeper made known the details of the letter sent by his eldest daughter and then FIFA replied to it, where they made him vibrate to the last fiber of his being by the way it was drawn by a little person who has learned about the exploits, disappointments, triumphs and setbacks of his father.
"There are things that are difficult to explain with words. And this is one of those moments, hehehehe. Many people know you for everything you have achieved in soccer. They talk about the World Cups, your games and all the years you have been playing soccer, and that is very cool and fun. But for me you are, above all, my dad."
“You are the one who always makes us laugh with your jokes (sometimes half bad), the one who asks us how we are after the games and the one who always helps us with our homework.
"Since I was little I have seen you represent Mexico with great pride. I have also seen all the effort behind that. The trips, the training sessions and the birthdays that you couldn't be there because you were working to represent Mexico.
"And although at times it was not easy, you never gave up. I think that is one of the most important things you have taught us: to move forward and give the best of ourselves," Lucciana said in part of the letter.
FIFA shared the video of Memo Ochoa at the FMF reading the letter in a dimly lit environment and at the end he reflected on what his career has been like for 23 years.
"But when that day comes I hope you enjoy it. That you remember everything you worked to get there and that you feel proud of everything you have achieved.
"No matter what happens in this World Cup, for us you are already a winner. Not only because of football, but because of the person you are, for your effort and for the example you give us every day.
"And although many people see you as a legend, I will continue to see you as my dad (and also my legend). We all love you very much and we are very happy and proud of you because we are going to win the world cup together.
Ochoa will retire after the 2026 World Cup
The Mexican goalkeeper, excited after reading the letter, reflected on his career and the six World Cups and concluded that, without the Mexican National Team, he no longer sees the point in continuing to play soccer.
“Everything has been in a spiral for more than 22, 23 years, with little time for vacations, for the family, to take them out and the Mexican National Team has always been my compass in my career and in my life.
"I don't understand my career without the National Team, I don't know what my career would be without the National Team. Now that I'm done with the national team, I don't see any more sense in football, I don't see any more sense in continuing to play. I've enjoyed every moment here, I've given everything, I've left everything. I leave in peace and with my head held high and proud to have lived through this," he concluded.
