Juan Carlos Osorio explained what was the problem in Colombia that led to its elimination
Osorio believes that Colombia made the same mistake as Portugal and Brazil. Néstor Lorenzo depended on individualities
The Colombian team became another great disappointment of the 2026 World Cup. The coffee team was eliminated by Switzerland on penalties in the round of 16. Juan Carlos Osorio explained the reasons for the Colombian fall.
The coffee team had the favorite label in the series against Switzerland. It was expected that Colombia could go much further in the World Cup. However, Néstor Lorenzo could not turn around a team that had problems with the goal.
"Colombia today showed what we are, a team that depends exclusively on Luis Díaz and James Rodríguez. We see that the teams that play best in this tournament are those that do it collectively, not those that depend on a single player," explained Osorio in statements compiled by Récord.
The Colombian team leaves the World Cup with a 1-3 victory over Uzbekistan, but then they were unable to score more than one goal in their next four games: a goal against DR Congo, a goal against Ghana and a blank match against Portugal and Switzerland.
Depending on the figures in the World Cup
According to Juan Carlos Osorio's analysis, Néstor Lorenzo was not the only coach who made a mistake in the World Cup by focusing his game on individualities. The Colombian strategist mentioned to other big teams that this idea took its toll on them.
"Portugal was left out because it depended on Cristiano Ronaldo; Brazil was left out because it depended on Vinicius Jr. and yesterday we saw how Belgium left out Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne to put in the players that that match required," added the former Mexico coach.
