La Opinion Hoy: Activists ask the Dodgers to refuse to visit President Trump
Immigrant rights activist groups asked the Dodgers not to visit the White House.
Immigrant rights activist groups asked the Los Angeles Dodgers not to visit the White House as World Series champions in protest against the immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles implemented by the Trump administration. The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) urged the Dodgers to decline the invitation and break with the tradition of championship-winning teams visiting the President of the United States. Since June 6, federal immigration agencies have intensified raids in Los Angeles and Southern California, ordered by the Trump administration, to arrest members of the immigrant community and deport them from the country. "Los Angeles is a city built by immigrants, working families, and Dreamers. We celebrate our champions, but we also stand for justice, dignity, and love for our community," the nonprofit organization said in a social media post. "Dodgers, stay with us. Support the city that has always supported you," the National Day Laborer Organizing Network added. Among the Dodgers' fans in Los Angeles and Southern California, thousands are Hispanic immigrants who currently live in fear of being arrested by federal immigration agents. In April, Dodgers players and executives visited the White House, where they greeted President Donald Trump after winning the 2014 World Series. The activist group's request comes at a time when the Dodgers' owners are facing criticism for investing in a company that owns and operates Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers. In an open letter to the Dodgers, NDLON is asking fans to sign a petition urging the team to decline a meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House. An opinion journalist spoke to us about Miss Universe and everything that happened with Miss Mexico.
“Total chaos and violence against women, not even microaggression anymore, violence is violence. A lot of videos went viral because the contestants and their delegations are already in Thailand, and obviously an event was prepared to present them with their respective country sashes. The organizer, let's say, of this ceremony is Nawat Itsaragrisil, for short, Nawat, president of Miss Grand International and co-organizer of the event in Thailand,” said Clary Castro.
She added that, "Unfortunately, the situation got out of control. The ceremony itself was being broadcast live on Facebook, on the official platform, and the problem here stems from what I considered a misunderstanding. Nawat had a list, according to him, of those contestants who weren't promoting Thailand, which, because of this, I don't know if it was promoting Thailand so that the video would receive enough likes for a select group of Mises had a private dinner with him.”
