Liga MX with 50 percent attendance in its stadiums in the Apertura 2025 tournament
Liga MX registers barely half of the capacity in the stadiums, according to reports from the League itself until matchday 13 of the Apertura 2025 tournament
Beyond the fact that sports analysis programs seem to paint a picture of Liga MX as very powerful, economically speaking, with buoyant box office revenue, the reality is very different according to figures from the very root of Mexican soccer and where attendance barely reaches 50 percent of the stadiums' capacity.
It is for this reason that the teams are considering centralizing television rights in the short term and that these can be sold in packages to companies interested in promoting the image of the Mexican teams in the top circuit.
To go no further, in the latest report on stadium attendance, there is a total of 2 million, 475 thousand, 227 fans, well below the capacity of the league's own stadiums, which have 4 million, 304 thousand, 456 seats available, which in percentage terms barely exceeds 50 percent of attendance.
According to the report issued by Liga MX, it is established that the official report is 58.24 percent until the matchday, barely exceeding the numbers of the Clausura 2024 tournament, but with a panorama well below the expectations of the sport of greater impact and greater dissemination in Mexico.
Without a doubt, numbers that should make the 18 participating teams think about what they are failing at, since the fact of having increased the number of foreigners under the pretext of enhancing the football spectacle of the League has failed materially, especially because most teams bet on quantity and not quality.
Not to go any further, teams like Puebla, Queretaro, Mazatlan, Santos Laguna, Atletico San Luis, Atlas, FC Juarez, add players without a reputation to their ranks and this ultimately impacts their fans and therefore the tickets to the stadiums.
Cases like Tigres, Monterrey, America, Cruz Azul, Toluca, Pachuca, Chivas, Pumas and Xolos Tijuana and Leon, are perhaps betting on bringing in a greater number of fans with a higher quality reinforcement planning, but without going to extremes that could give greater strength to the ticket industry in Liga MX.
It is true that in the analysis of Liga MX, it is necessary to highlight all the external factors that influence the fan to think twice before going to a stadium, such as insecurity, high ticket prices, the poor condition of the stadiums and above all the insecurity.
To cite an example, access to the Akron stadium of Chivas is an ordeal, but especially on the way out, because fans have to walk up to five kilometers to find a way to return to their homes, because they are not allowed access to public transportation, much less to the application or city taxis in the vicinity of the stadium.
What starts badly ends badly
While it is true that the start of the Apertura 2025 tournament was not what was expected, taking into account that the teams projected that their stadiums would be overflowing with fans with the idea of give them a more attractive tournament, with new faces, but the reality is that a percentage of 54.4 was not something to celebrate, despite the fact that stadiums such as the Universitario and the BBVA, which house the Tigres and Monterrey teams, have always stood up to the hype and have broken away from that generality.
In this way, Mexican teams would have to take notice and start structuring plans to optimize their ways or platforms to attract fans to their stadiums, from the facility ticket to the overall fan experience that already exists in other leagues and that has worked wonders for them.
