Veljko Paunovi? proudly remembers his time in Mexico
The former Chivas coach recognized that in Liga MX he applied his leadership. Paunovic was grateful for his time in Mexico
Veljko Paunović had a couple of internships in Mexican soccer. The European strategist directed the Chivas de Guadalajara and the Tigres de la UANL. Although he did not leave with the big door, Paunovic fondly remembers his time in Mexico.
The European strategist came to Liga MX through Fernando Hierro, Chivas' sports director for 2023. Paunovic led the Rebaño Sagrado to a final and a quarterfinal. Paunovic left a record of 21 wins, 8 draws and 15 losses with the club.
"I give all my heart in all places, and they have noticed that in Mexico. Apart from the job of coach, I exercised leadership in all places and I always applied myself to the maximum with sincerity, sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't," Paunovic said in a conversation broadcast by Claro Sports.
Veljko Paunović had a second stage in Mexican soccer, but on the bench of the Tigres de la UANL. With the cats he could only reach the quarterfinals and left a record of 20 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses.
"Sometimes short-term results do not occur, but I know that in the long term, working like this, they do come. Eternally grateful to Mexico," he recalled.
Veljko Paunović from Serbia
Since October 2025, Veljko Paunović has led the Serbian national team. The European strategist has only commanded 5 games on the bench of this brave team. Although they have just lost 3-0 against Cape Verde, it is expected that Paunovic can command a good process.
Serbia could not qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Serbs will face Mexico on Thursday, June 4 at the Nemesio Diez Stadium in Toluca. This will help Paunovic prepare for the Nations League that will begin in September.
