Pumas are considering signing Hirving Lozano

In Major League Soccer, there was an announcement that came as a surprise. San Diego FC decided to part ways with Hirving Lozano, their franchise player, for the 2026 season. Everything points to discontent within the squad. Pumas UNAM are not opposed to signing him. Tyler Heaps, sporting director of San Diego FC, announced that "Chucky" would not be a player considered for the upcoming season. The Mexican striker will be one of the club's departures, and his agent will now have to find him a new team. "We have communicated with Hirving and his representatives that he will not be part of our sporting plans in the future (...) This was not a decision taken lightly. It was something thoroughly discussed from the owners to the board, including myself and [coach Mikey Varas], and it has been communicated to the rest of the group," Tyler Heaps stated. Given this situation, Antonio Sancho was asked about the possibility of him joining Pumas UNAM. The university team's sporting vice president acknowledged that this announcement took him by surprise. Sancho doesn't rule out studying the possible signing, but the financial demands of the American team must be taken into account.
“First, we'd have to see if it fits within the budget. A player like 'Chucky' is always interesting; ultimately, he's a top-level player, and with everything he's done at the national team level, he makes a difference because of the level at which he plays. However, the truth is that I didn't know about it, and we haven't explored or analyzed it until now,” said Sancho.

Hirving Lozano didn't even spend a year with San Diego FC. The Mexican forward signed a contract with the American club until December 2028 with an option to extend it for two more years. But “Chucky's” time in San Diego was shorter than expected.
The 30-year-old attacker only managed to play 34 games with the club. Hirving Lozano scored 11 goals and provided 9 assists in 2,120 minutes on the field. According to Transfermarkt, Lozano's market value is around $10 million.
