Real Madrid expressed its satisfaction with FIFA's decision to withdraw from its proposal to partially sell the commercial rights to its competitions and highlighted the unity shown by UEFA, the confederations and different federations to prevent the project from moving forward.
The Spanish team assured that the collective rejection made it possible to protect the interests of football and the institutions that support this sport, while considering that the measure especially benefits the millions of fans around the world.
Real Madrid recognizes the position of UEFA and the confederations
Through a statement released this Sunday, the white club thanked the support of the organizations that opposed the initiative promoted by FIFA.
"Their unity and sense of duty have protected football at a decisive moment. Our club considers this to be good news for football, for its institutions and, above all, for the millions of fans of our beloved sport," Real Madrid said in a statement made public this Sunday.
Likewise, he thanks “UEFA, the confederations, the federations and all the institutions that firmly and responsibly opposed this project.”
The club defends the role of the teams in the World Cup
Real Madrid maintained that the clubs are the pillar on which the main international competitions are built and recalled that they are responsible for training the footballers who later represent their countries.
The Spanish club highlights that "the clubs are the basis on which national team football and the World Cup are built" and they are "those who discover, train, develop and put the footballers who make these great competitions possible at the service of the national teams."
He also defended that the World Cup and national team football are part of society's sporting heritage and should not become financial assets.
"Selected football and the World Cup are, above all, events of public interest, and they make up a heritage that belongs to nations, fans and society as a whole. Therefore, we consider that they should never be treated as simple financial assets destined to be marketed for the benefit of a few," he adds.
Refuses to compromise future football revenues
The Madrid team reiterated that it will continue to oppose any initiative that involves selling future commercial income from competitions without assuming the risks generated by these resources.
It also shows its "firm opposition to any attempt to sell the future commercial income of competitions without assuming in return any of its costs or risks."
“It is the clubs that support them, and any initiative that seeks to appropriate future football income without assuming the responsibilities that generate it is unacceptable and should never be considered again,” insists the white club.

Real Madrid took advantage of the statement to remember that it has maintained the same position for several years and cited as precedent its refusal to participate in the agreement reached between LaLiga and the CVC investment fund, through which the clubs committed part of their future audiovisual income.
Real Madrid affirms that "this is, furthermore, the same principle that it has been defending at the national level" and recalls that "it opposed and did not participate at the time in the operation by which LaLiga committed a percentage of the clubs' future audiovisual income for fifty years in exchange for the entry of a private fund such as CVC."
“Mortgaging for half a century income that corresponds to the clubs, which are the ones who assume all of the costs and risks, constitutes a precedent that football should not repeat, whether in our country or internationally,” he says.
