The body of Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal Purja was located this Sunday by rescue teams in Pakistan, after being missing since last Thursday after an avalanche that occurred during an expedition on Broad Peak, one of the most challenging mountains of more than 8,000 meters on the planet.
The information was confirmed by the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), which also announced the discovery of three other members of the expedition who lost their lives during the accident.

The rescue mission, which began during the early hours of Sunday, managed to recover the body of Nirmal Purja, in addition to those of the Chinese mountaineer Wang Zhong and the Nepalese Kili Pemba Sherpa and Nima Sherpa.
The expedition had been trapped by an avalanche on Broad Peak, an 8,047-meter mountain located in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan.
“Four mortal remains have been recovered, packaged, and are currently being transported to Camp 1 (C1) and below,” the ACP said.
"Rescue teams have also confirmed the presence of another body at a considerably higher altitude. Due to the extremely dangerous terrain and current conditions, it is unlikely that any attempt will be made to recover the body at this time," the Club added.

Nirmal Purja's name transcended the world of mountaineering in 2019, when he completed the ascent of all 14 mountains over 8,000 meters high in just over six months, a feat that captured international attention due to the speed with which it was achieved.
His achievement was documented in the production “The 14 Eight Thousands,” which showed the physical and logistical challenge behind one of the most demanding expeditions in contemporary mountaineering.

The authorities continue work in the accident area, although the Alpine Club of Pakistan warned that the ground conditions make any new recovery operation difficult.
The presence of another body at a higher altitude, added to the permanent risk of new avalanches and the complexity of the terrain, keeps any additional attempts by the rescue teams on hold.
