Just over two years before the start of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, fans will get their first major glimpse of the most important sporting event on the planet with the official opening of registration for ticket purchases. This process begins this Wednesday, January 14, through a lottery system that will assign random purchase slots.

The start of registration was celebrated On Tuesday, the Athlete Collective event, organized by LA28, took place at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, an iconic venue for the Olympic movement and the site of the 1932 and 1984 Games. The event brought together more than 300 Olympic and Paralympic athletes, representing over 30 editions of the Games, from Rome 1960 to Paris 2024, in one of the largest gatherings of athletes outside of competition. During the event, the ceremonial lighting of the Olympic cauldron took place, a symbolic gesture that officially marked the start of the journey for athletes and fans to LA28. The event also included brief institutional speeches and opportunities for interaction with the media. Registration, key dates, and who can access the Games: Registration for the ticket lottery is the first mandatory step for those wishing to attend the Olympic Games in person. From the moment registration opened, anyone could sign up for an assigned purchase slot when formal ticket sales began. Organizers confirmed that residents of the Los Angeles area and Oklahoma City will have priority access to early purchase slots. Oklahoma City was designated as the venue for the canoe slalom and softball competitions. To access this benefit, interested parties must have a zip code that matches their credit card billing address in the eligible counties of California or Oklahoma. Local residents who register before March 18 will be eligible for early purchase slots between April 2 and 6.While those who do not receive that benefit will automatically be entered into the general lottery.

The Los Angeles Olympic Games will be held from July 14 to 30, 2028, although disciplines such as baseball, basketball, hockey, and water polo will begin on July 12. This edition will be the largest in the history of the Olympics, with more than 11,000 athletes and 51 sports.

LA28 reported that it will put 14 million tickets on sale for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, surpassing the record set by Paris 2024. Initial prices for individual tickets will start at $28.
