The colors of Twitter's new verification system are now visible on the site. Government officials and organizations are now visible on the microblogging site with gray ticks next to their names. This change has already been seen on some profiles. Gray ticks are visible on the Twitter profiles of many politicians including PM Modi, US President Joe Biden and UK PM Rishi Sunak. However, it is yet to be fully implemented, with profiles of many politicians still showing up with the old blue tick.

Earlier, CEO Elon Musk took to the microblogging site to announce his new verification system. Sorry for the delay, we are tentatively launching verification on Friday next week, he had tweeted. Golden checks for companies, gray checks for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated. He had tweeted about the use of different colors for different organizations and individuals, but only recently gave details. All verified individual users will have only one blue tick.  

According to a report by The Verge, the microblogging platform's 'Twitter Blue' subscriptions started despite warnings from Twitter's own trust and security staff. Soon after this many verified accounts started impersonating famous personalities or brands. The hoax began with a fake Nintendo account that posted an image of the famous game character Mario raising the middle finger on Twitter. Meanwhile, another fake Twitter account of the pharmaceutical company 'Eli Lilly' surfaced. It had tweeted that insulin has become free.

According to a report in The Verge, this led to the withdrawal of many advertisers. Musk then shut down the $7.99 service just days after it was implemented. Musk took matters into his own hands, tweeting that any account that tried to impersonate someone else would be disabled unless its user declared it a parody account. Musk described the current multi-color verification system as "painful, but necessary."
