5.6 magnitude earthquake shakes Mexico City
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that so far no damages or victims have been reported after the earthquake
An 5.6 magnitude earthquake surprised the residents of Mexico City this Monday May 4, after the alerts were activated around 9:19 hours.
According to the National Seismological Service of Mexico, the epicenter of this telluric movement was recorded 24 kilometers west of Pinotepa Nacional, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.
After the earthquake, the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, reported that up to now no damages or victims had been reported.
“The Civil Protection Coordinator informs me that so far no damages or victims due to the earthquake are reported,” said president Claudia Sheinbaum in a message on the social network “X”.
In addition to Mexico City, the earthquake was noticeable in the states of Morelos and Puebla, as well as in the municipalities of the Costa Chica region such as Ometepec, Cu ajinicuilapa, Azoyú, Igualapa, Juchitán, San Nicolás, Marquelia, Copala, Tlacoachistlahuaca, San Luis Acatlán, Cuautepec, Ayutla de los Libres and Xochistlahuaca.
This earthquake is recorded just a few days from the Mexican government will carry out the “First National Drill 2026” scheduled for Wednesday May 6 at 11:00 hours, central Mexico time.
