ICE agents break the glass of a car to arrest two Hispanics: all in front of their children
Elizabeth Gutierrez Diaz, 49, and her husband Juan Manuel, 48, were arrested by ICE agents in the middle of the street in San Diego and in front of their children
“You're not going to take me, you're not going to take me!” could be heard in the middle of the street in San Diego, on Tuesday morning. A Hispanic immigrant was being arrested by ICE agents in front of his two children, causing a lamentable scene of screams and despair. Shortly before, his wife had also been detained.
Elizabeth Gutiérrez Díaz, 49, and her husband, Juan Manuel (48), found themselves cornered by the uniformed officers. Although the community tried to help them in the middle of the situation, they were finally detained.
They didn't give her a chance to run or fight, nothing, they grabbed her and took her away, said Mannely Alonso, daughter of the arrested immigrants, through tears.
Through a Telemundo News report, she also said that her father locked himself in his car to avoid arrest, but ICE agents broke the vehicle's windows and forcibly removed him. Mannely explained that her parents are in the immigration process to regularize their residency in the country.
"My mother is a very noble person, and so is my mother. They were in the process of getting her visa, trying to do things right," the young woman stated.
San Diego Sheriff's Department rules out involvement in arrest
Images captured on cell phones showed the agents used force to arrest Juan Manuel. A video even showed him being put into a van.
Mannely Alonso reported on the presence of San Diego Sheriff's Department officers during the incident, stating, “They are not there to help us, but to make their job easier.” However, Captain Ruben Medina clarified that they were only responding to a 911 call. They found that there were federal ICE agents detaining a subject. We had no information, but upon arrival, the marshals determined that they were ICE agents, Medina argued, ruling out any involvement on their part in this type of immigration operations.
