Scotland: Glasgow Gurudwara strongly condemned the misbehavior with the Indian High Commissioner, issued a statement

A group of Khalistani supporters stopped Indian High Commissioner to Britain Vikram Doraiswami from entering a gurudwara in Scotland on Friday. According to sources, Khalistan supporters received information that Doraiswami was scheduled to hold a meeting with the Gurudwara Committee of the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive. When he reached here, some people surrounded his car. The Indian High Commission said that three people stopped the High Commissioner from entering the Gurudwara. An attempt was made to open the door of his car. He was threatened and abused. To ensure that the matter did not escalate further, the High Commissioner and the Consul General returned. Due to this, a meeting could not be held to listen to the problems of the Sikh community.

Committee issued statement

When the matter gained momentum, the Gurudwara Committee issued a statement on Saturday. In the statement, the Gurdwara said that the Gurdwara strongly condemns the disorderly behavior meant to disrupt the peaceful proceedings of a Sikh place of worship. The Gurudwara is open to people of all communities. We openly welcome all people according to our principles.

Indian government expressed objection

India has expressed strong objection to Indian High Commissioner to Britain Vikram Doraiswami being prevented from visiting a Gurudwara in Scotland by pro-Khalistan extremists. While demanding strict action against extremists, India has also asked to tighten the security of Indian diplomats. India has raised this issue with the British Foreign Office and police. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called to a disturbance in the Albert Drive area of Glasgow at 1:05pm on Friday. There is no report of any injury and investigation is ongoing to ascertain the entire situation.

In a video posted on social media, a Sikh man can be heard saying, “We will not allow any Indian ambassador, any person from the Government of India, who comes in any official capacity to apply for a visa, or whoever Yes, we should welcome like this.
