An explosion caused by a propane tank at a bakery in Florida City left 10 people hospitalized and caused the partial collapse of the premises' roof this Saturday morning, according to the Miami-Dade Fire Department (MDFR).

The incident occurred shortly before 9 am at Palm Bakery, located at 941 West Palm Drive, inside a shopping center. Upon arriving at the scene, emergency crews found a chaotic scene: debris scattered across the parking lot, a small fire still burning, and part of the roof structure collapsed. According to an MDFR battalion chief, the explosion originated inside the business while gas company workers were operating inside. At the time, the bakery was closed to the public, Local 10 reported. In total, 10 people were injured. Eight were transported to nearby hospitals, including two victims with serious injuries who were airlifted to a trauma center. Two other people made their own way to medical facilities before emergency services arrived. All victims were in stable condition at the time of last report. Firefighters acted quickly to shut off the gas supply and prevent a larger incident. Specialized teams with search dogs inspected the area affected by the collapse to rule out the presence of trapped victims. No other people were found under the rubble.

The explosion caused significant structural damage, so the building was declared unsafe. More than 27 emergency units were working at the scene, including firefighters, Florida City police, and Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies.

MDFR spokeswoman Erika Benitez said the cause of the explosion is under investigation and the structure will continue to be monitored as a precaution.
