They demand the release of a Hispanic nurse, detained by ICE in February: she has lost 8 kilos
Allison Bustillo, a 20-year-old Honduran woman, was detained during an ICE raid in North Carolina. Her mother demands her immediate release.
Since February 20, a Hispanic nursing assistant has been held at the Stewart Detention Center in Georgia, after being arrested by agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE). After four months, her family reports that she has lost 8 kilos and is demanding her immediate release.
Allison Bustillo, a 20-year-old Honduran who has lived in the United States since she was 9, was detained in Charlotte, North Carolina, during an ICE raid where agents were allegedly looking for another person.
According to images collected by Noticias Telemundo, officers broke down the door where Allison lived. That afternoon, the young nurse was caring for her three younger siblings, one of whom is severely autistic, the report states.
“Mom, I feel like I'm not going to get out alive”
Keily Chinchilla, the young woman's mother, reports that her daughter has lost up to 17 pounds (about 7.8 kilos) in the four months she has been detained, which has harmed her physical and emotional health.
“This is a nightmare, very painful, a horror,” said Allison's mother, noting that the same ICE agent told her that the documents sent by her lawyer were ready for her release, since she had no criminal record and had been living in the United States for many years.
Do you know what they did? They changed the agent, the deportation officer, she said. For his part, immigration attorney Martin Rosenbluth, who is following Allison's case, noted that his client's parole and asylum process 'are still pending' and the next hearing is scheduled for July 17.
My daughter calls me at times, crying, saying: 'Mom, I feel like I'm not going to get out of this place alive, it's really painful,' said Keily Chinchilla. In occasional video calls that Allison has with her siblings, she assures them that she will be back home soon.
The health problems that the young Honduran woman is facing
An organization that accompanies immigrants at the Stewart Detention Center, called El Refugio, also requested Allison's release.
In a letter sent to ICE, they argue that the Honduran woman has suffered from “scoliosis, numbness on the left side of her body, bleeding, fainting, and abdominal pain.” All since her arrest.
In this sense, they demand that the young woman receive appropriate medical care. The Telemundo report adds statements from the Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) regarding Allison's health: “He is being regularly monitored by the facility's medical staff, and all known medical issues are being treated.”
