Starting in 2026, California residents will be able to buy low-cost insulin from a state-owned brand, Governor Gavin Newsom announced Thursday.
Insulin pens from CalRx (California's program to develop and sell its own prescription drugs) will be available to state residents at effective January 1, 2026.
“California didn’t wait for the pharmaceutical industry to do the right thing: we took matters into our own hands,” Newsom said in a press release.
