Kevin González, young with terminal cancer, is dismissed at his school, among applause in Durango
Classmates, teachers and relatives accompanied the young man in an emotional goodbye after losing the battle against cancer
With white flowers, war band music and applause, relatives, colleagues, and teachers said the final goodbye to Kevin González, a 18-year-old who died due to colon cancer in terminal phase in Durango.
The present body tribute was carried out in the high school where he studied, in an environment marked by sadness, but also by the affection of those who shared moments with him.
Kevin's coffin was received by students dressed in white, who kept a minute of silence while the drums of the camp's warband resonated.
Although the young man couldn't conclude his studies due to his illness, the school community decided to say goodbye to him in the place where he dreamed of graduating.
“Today we find ourselves here with a great pain in our heart,” expressed Citlali Zamarripa, the young man's companion, in statements collected by Telemundo Chicago.
“Thank you for your friendship, for your way of being, and for all the moments that you gave us,” he added during the tribute.
Deported parents managed to say goodbye to Kevin
One of the most emotional moments of the farewell was the presence of Kevin's parents, who managed to return in an emergency after being deported from the United States to accompany their son in his last days.
Family members from Chicago also traveled to Durango to be present at the funeral. Due to this, the wake that began on Monday was postponed until Wednesday May 13 to await their arrival.
Nancy Ramírez, aunt of the young man, said that the transfer from the United States was complicated and that even one of Kevin's siblings couldn't travel.
“We couldn't get there sooner, but here we are with her. We are a very united family; her pain is our pain,” he commented.
According to friends and colleagues, Kevin was remembered as a joyful, outgoing young man passionate about music and football.
“He always listened to music and told us to stay united as a living room,” recalled Teresa Guadalupe Alcántar.
Kevin was buried with the America t-shirt
After the school tribute, Kevin's body was moved to a city church for a farewell mass. Subsequently, relatives and friends participated in a procession towards the pantheon where he was finally buried.
One of the details that moved those who attended was that the young man, who would have turned 19 on May 26, was buried with the Club America shirt, team of which he was a fan.
