The US Army will train Mexico's security forces for the World Cup
The Mexican Senate is about to authorize the United States Army to train Mexican security forces to maintain order during the World Cup
Mexican government authorities want to avoid any surprises and have therefore requested the Senate to authorize the presence of a specialized team from the United States Army to train police and military personnel in preparation for the World Cup 2026.
The requested authorization is part of the “2026 FIFA World Cup Preparation Training and Vital Exercise Archer” event, designed to ensure that Mexican security personnel are adequately prepared for any unforeseen event that could threaten order during the global tournament.
This refresher program is aimed at security personnel who will be involved in safeguarding everything related to the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in Mexico on June 11 when the Mexican team faces South Africa in a rematch of the opening match played 16 years ago in the African nation.
The specialized U.S. command will arrive with its most advanced technology to provide top-level training to Mexican personnel in counterterrorism, crisis management, terrorist attack simulations, and the handling of explosive devices.
According to the official website of U.S. Northern Command, Archer training consists of Preparing personnel against weapons of mass destruction, a similar exercise was already conducted with Canadian security forces involving 23 agencies "to strengthen defense." A few days ago, Mexican security forces presented Plan Kukulkan as a security strategy for the World Cup. The plan involves the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the National Guard, the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), and the Navy, and includes 99,000 personnel for the protection of citizens and tourists.
