The US carried out 25 military flights near Cuba for intelligence work, reveals CNN
The Armed Forces would carry out a process similar to the one they did before attacking in Venezuela and Iran, according to CNN
The Armed Forces of the United States conducted at least 25 military flights near Cuba to gather intelligence since last February, in a deployment that analysts compare with previous operations to US military actions in Venezuela and Iran, according to CNN.
According to the report, most U.S. Navy and Air Force flights recorded since February 4 have occurred near e the two largest cities on the island, Havana and Santiago de Cuba, with some having been within 64 kilometers of the coast, the media added.
CNN noted that “similar patterns in which elevated rhetoric by the Trump Administration coincided with an increase in visibility "public surveillance flights occurred in the period before US military operations in both Venezuela and Iran."
According to the report, the missions were carried out mainly with P-8A Poseidon aircraft, used for maritime patrol, surveillance and reconnaissance strategic force. RC-135V Rivet Joint planes, specialized in signals intelligence, as high altitude MQ-4C Triton drones, also participated.
Specialists consulted by US media indicated that this type of aircraft are used to intercept communications, monitor military installations and collect electronic information on strategic infrastructure.
CNN also highlighted that the increase in these flights is “unusual” due to their frequency and closeness to Cuban territory, since this type of publicly visible operations were not common in the region before February of this year.
The increase intelligence flights revive memories of historical episodes such as the Missile Crisis of 1962, when the United States intensified air reconnaissance operations over Cuba amid the confrontation with the Soviet Union.
