The sculpture in honor of Sofia Vergara is ready. This week, in the framework of the actress’s 53rd birthday, an imposing statue of the interpreter was inaugurated in Barranquilla.
Through her Instagram account, Vergara shared a carousel with a series of photos of the statue, made by the renowned sculptor Yino Márquez, who is also the author of the statue of Shakira.
"Thank you my beautiful Barranquilla for this gift. I never imagined that my story, my work and my dreams would leave such a significant mark on this land that I love, respect and miss so much," wrote the actress alongside the publication.
Vergara also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to her native Barranquilla for the recognition.
"I thank Barranquilla for everything I am. Everything I have achieved I owe to the strength, the courage and the joy that is breathed in this land. This statue is not only in my honor, but in honor of the people of Barranquilla and in honor of my family and friends who have always been with me. I love you very much," he added.
The sculpture of Sofía Vergara, located on the Gran Malecón del Río, is made of bronze, stands 7.5 meters tall, and weighs approximately 5.5 tons.
The sculpture depicts Sofía Vergara wearing a dark blue dress that symbolizes the Magdalena River and the Caribbean Sea. The sculpture's skin is golden, and in one of her hands, she holds a bouquet with three Barranquilla stars, a detail that highlights her local identity and her brilliance as an international star.
During the sculpture's inauguration ceremony, the mayor of Barranquilla, Alejandro Char, highlighted the actress's authenticity and perseverance.
Vergara's sculpture joins other monumental works on the Malecón del Río that pay tribute to prominent figures from Barranquilla, consolidating this space as a cultural and tourist symbol of the city.
