The most popular banks will close all day in June: here is the date
Banks like Chase and Wells Fargo will close all day in June: here are all the details and what other services will also be suspended that day
If you have pending banking procedures, it is important that you take precautions: several of the largest banks in the United States will close their doors for a full day this June. This includes institutions such as Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Citibank.
On June 19, all traditional and branch banks in the United States will close their doors in observance of the holiday known as Juneteenth.
Chase, one of the country's leading banks, has already confirmed that all 4,700 of its branches in 48 states will remain closed for 24 hours.
According to some reports, Wells Fargo will also join this measure. This operational pause is part of a national initiative to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, a historical event now recognized with a federal holiday.
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, marks the moment when the last enslaved African Americans in the country were freed, two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. This celebration was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021 when President Joe Biden signed legislation establishing it. Due to this national observance, it's not just banks that will be closed. Federal government offices, such as state and local courts, Social Security offices, and Departments of Motor Vehicles (DMVs), will also be closed. Additionally, public and city schools will be closed, and there will be no garbage or recycling collection on that day. Some private operations, such as FedEx and UPS, will continue to operate, but it's important to note that the postal service will not be delivering mail in cities like New York City on June 19. On the other hand, for those who want to take advantage of the day off with recreational activities, there will be several options available throughout the United States. Check out cultural activities in your area, such as museums and national parks, which will remain open to the public so you can enjoy the day with your family.
