Ford faces new massive recall for Expedition failure
More than 548 thousand Ford Expeditions must be checked for a part that can generate sharp edges and cause injuries
A new review campaign puts Ford under the microscope again. The automaker confirmed the recall of 548,463 units of the Ford Expedition manufactured between 2018 and 2024, after detecting a problem in one of the parts of the center console that could cause cuts to the occupants.

Although it is not a failure related to the engine, brakes or steering, the situation raised concern due to the potential risk for drivers and passengers during daily use of the vehicle.

A piece that can become dangerous
The investigation determined that a chrome trim located on the center console can deteriorate over time. When this occurs, the coating may partially peel off or form sharp metal edges that can cause injuries to hands and fingers.
According to the documentation submitted to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem would be linked to components manufactured outside the quality parameters required by the brand.
In the first stage, Ford considered that the situation did not require a recall. However, the analysis continued to incorporate warranty claims, customer reports, and information collected in the field.
As more cases surfaced, the company reassessed the scope of the problem and decided to move forward with a massive campaign to fix the defect.
Dozens of injuries reported
As of June 2, 2026, Ford had recorded at least 4,634 warranty claims potentially related to this condition. Added to this are 150 field reports, 34 cases reported through customer service centers, 65 injuries associated with the defect and one accident linked to the problem.
The brand indicated that all affected owners will be able to access a repair at no cost.
The procedure includes an inspection of the center console to detect signs of deterioration, bubbles in the lining or chrome detachments. If necessary, the part will be replaced with a new one that meets the manufacturing specifications established by Ford.
The company also reported that on June 10 it began notifying dealers and enabling queries via VIN. Subsequently, starting June 29, owners will receive official communications to coordinate the inspection of their vehicles.
