This is an important commitment for the brand, not only because of its technology, but also because of the historical weight that the Eclipse name has among Mitsubishi followers.
A joint development with Nissan
The new vehicle was born thanks to the collaboration between Mitsubishi and Nissan, partners within the automotive alliance that both companies have been part of for years.
The technical basis of the Eclipse Sportback EV comes from the new generation of the Nissan LEAF, although Mitsubishi assures that the model will have its own identity. The designers worked on various elements to differentiate it visually and bring it closer to the aesthetic language currently used by the brand.
Among the announced features are new designs for the front and rear, exclusive lighting signatures, sporty-looking wheels and the presence of the traditional Triple Diamond emblem that identifies Mitsubishi vehicles around the world.
Electrification continues to advance
This launch is part of a broader strategy with which the company seeks to strengthen its presence in the electrified vehicle segment.
Mitsubishi's relationship with this technology is not recent. The company has been working on electric mobility solutions for decades and was one of the pioneers in the commercialization of cars powered exclusively by batteries. Later it also played an important role in the development of plug-in hybrid SUVs thanks to the Outlander PHEV.
Now, the Eclipse Sportback EV becomes a new step within that evolution.
A key piece of the Momentum 2030 plan
The new electric SUV is part of the Momentum 2030 business program, a roadmap that contemplates a constant renewal of the product range over the coming years.
The company has reiterated its intention to introduce at least one new or deeply updated vehicle each year until the end of the decade. These plans also include an off-road variant of the Outlander, scheduled for early 2027.
For the moment, Mitsubishi is keeping important aspects of the Eclipse Sportback EV under wraps. Data such as autonomy, power, battery capacity and price have not yet been revealed. The brand announced that all these details will be announced closer to its official launch in the North American market.
