Russell Brand was charged with two new sexual assault charges
New charges against the comedian stem from evidence presented by the Metropolitan Police of London following an exhaustive investigation
Russell Brand's legal situation has worsened. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced on Monday that it has authorized two new charges against the actor and comedian, related to allegations of rape and sexual assault that allegedly occurred more than a decade ago. According to the official statement seen by Deadline, the charges stem from evidence presented by London's Metropolitan Police following a thorough investigation. The incidents he is accused of allegedly took place in 2008 and 2012.
With these new accusations, the legal pressure on the former television presenter increases, adding to a history of allegations that began to surface publicly in late 2023.
The head of the CPS Special Crimes Unit, Rosemary Ainslie, confirmed that criminal proceedings have been initiated against the 49-year-old actor.
“The CPS has authorized the Metropolitan Police to bring two additional charges of sexual assault by penetration (rape) against Russell Brand,” Ainslie stated, emphasizing the institution's commitment to bringing sexual offenses to justice, regardless of the time that has passed.
Brand, who in recent years has transformed his public image towards political activism and spiritual well-being through digital platforms, has categorically denied all the accusations against him.
In previous statements, the actor maintained that all his past relationships were “always.” consensual.” The comedian is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in the coming weeks for the formal reading of the charges. This case continues under international scrutiny, marking one of the most high-profile court cases in the UK in recent years, as authorities urge the public to avoid speculation that could prejudice the integrity of the trial.
