Tesla faces Cybertruck review for failures criticism
A defect in the Cybertruck brakes forces Tesla to review more than 170 units due to risk of wheel detachment
The Tesla Cybertruck is news again, although this time not for its futuristic design nor for its performance. The company had to activate a ll beloved review that puts the focus on a key component for safety, something that inevitably generates concern among owners.

The problem detected is not minor. It is a possible failure in the brake system which, in certain conditions, could end up with a wheel coming off in full drive.

A scenario that, although infrequent, represents an obvious risk, both for those in the vehicle and for those circulating nearby.
What units are affected?
According to official reports, at least 173 units are involved in this review. They correspond to the rear-wheel drive version equipped with 18-inch wheels, a variant that also had a fairly limited presence in the market.
Although the number may seem low, the nature of the defect is what's really worrying. It's a possible structural failure in a critical area of the vehicle.
The root of everything is in the brake discs. According to the information disseminated by the brand itself, these components can develop cracks in specific points, especially in the holes where the wheel studs are fixed.
With everyday use, those small cracks can grow without being detected. Normal wear, road irregularities or even handling maneuvers turn can speed up this process. The complicated thing is that these cracks are not visible to the naked eye, which makes any early diagnosis difficult.
Some drivers reported unusual vibrations when braking, a sign that could have anticipated the problem, although it's not always obvious to all users.
Risks and scope of the investigation
If the damage progresses, the outcome could be serious. The elements that hold the wheel could lose firmness until completely separate, which would result in the total loss of the wheel while the vehicle is in motion.
Tesla is also analyzing whether the problem could extend beyond these units. The same brake discs were available as spares at service centers, so there is a possibility that other vehicles have been equipped with these parts.
Despite this, the brand indicated that it only has record of three related warranty claims and that there are no reports of accidents, injuries,or fatal victims linked to this situation.
Technical changes and solution
To solve the inconvenience, Tesla redesigned both the brake discs and the wheel hubs. The objective is to improve the structural resistance and prevent the appearance of cracks in normal use conditions.
New nuts with a coating that improves friction were also incorporated, which helps maintain the correct adjustment, even in demanding situations.
Notices began to be sent to owners at the end of April, and it is expected that from June 20, vehicles can be inspected and repaired at service centers.
This episode also gives a glimpse of the discreet passage of the rear-wheel-drive version of the Cybertruck through the market. It was the more accessible alternative le, with a difference of about $10,000 dollars compared to the full traction version, but its low demand led to the brand deciding to withdraw it.
